From enquiry to collection

How selling your vehicle works

Four clear steps, with the vehicle details, access and paperwork agreed before collection.

  1. 01

    Tell us about the vehicle

Start with the make, model, year, approximate kilometres and suburb. Explain whether it starts, drives, rolls and steers. Mention accident damage, missing components, expired registration and any finance or insurance matter that could affect your right to sell. Photos and an existing mechanic report can help; there is no need to commission repairs just to request an appraisal.

  2. 02

Review the offer and collection details

Check the purchase amount and what it assumes about condition and completeness. Confirm that collection is included for your address, and describe tight access, steep driveways, basement parking or a vehicle blocked by other cars. A quote should be clear about any inspection conditions. If information changes, ask for the revised amount before agreeing to handover.

  3. 03

    Choose a suitable pickup time

Once the offer is accepted, agree on an available collection window and who will meet the driver. Same-day collection depends on the location, booking time, vehicle and access. For a workshop pickup, arrange permission with the workshop and settle any release or storage requirements directly before the collection appointment.

  4. 04

    Complete payment and handover

Have identification and evidence of your authority to sell ready. Check the written sale record identifies the vehicle and agreed amount. Confirm payment using the agreed method before releasing the vehicle; a transfer screenshot alone does not establish that cleared money has reached your account. Retain the sale record and complete any registration or insurance follow-up that applies.

Before the driver arrives

  • Remove personal belongings, tools, toll tags and child seats.
  • Clear a safe loading path and keep keys available if you have them.
  • Tell us about flat tyres, locked wheels, leaks or damage affecting loading.
  • Check whether registration is being transferred or cancelled before removing plates.
  • Remove saved addresses and personal data from the vehicle infotainment system where possible.

Registration is a separate step

An unregistered vehicle can be sold in Queensland without a safety certificate. Registered sales have different requirements and exemptions. A purchase receipt does not automatically transfer or cancel registration.

Use the Queensland Government selling guide to check your circumstances. Our unregistered vehicle guide explains the main decisions before collection.
